About APOA
Connect · Share · Make a Difference
The Australian Property Owners Alliance (APOA) is a volunteer-led, not-for-profit organisation and community platform in Australia. We connect property owners from different backgrounds, help turn lived experience into shared knowledge, and create opportunities for everyday voices to be heard.
Who We Are
APOA grew out of conversations and mutual support among Australian landlords. The community began taking shape around 2020, and the organisation was formally registered in 2024. Building on these roots, APOA now aims to connect a broader community of people who own property in Australia — including owner-occupiers, landlords, property investors and families thinking about the long-term stewardship of their homes and assets.
For many Australian families, property is more than a home or an investment. It is connected to everyday life, family security, retirement planning and intergenerational wealth. Yet owning property does not automatically mean knowing how to navigate complex rules on taxation, insurance, building standards, repairs, property management or legal obligations.
APOA seeks to be a place where people can exchange experience, learn together and support one another — becoming better informed about their rights and responsibilities and more confident in their decisions.
Why This Matters
Property issues often cross several legal, administrative and professional systems. Finding reliable information, understanding a process or knowing who to ask can be difficult, especially when English is not someone’s first language.
These challenges are not limited to rental properties. Owner-occupiers may face building defects, maintenance, safety and insurance questions, title or boundary issues, scams and long-term financial decisions.
We believe lived experience deserves to be heard and useful knowledge should be easier to access. We also believe that the lawful rights and responsibilities of both property owners and renters deserve respect. A constructive community helps people understand issues more clearly rather than setting one group against another.
Our Three Areas of Work
Member Support
Through online communities, peer discussion and in-person events, we bring property owners together to exchange experiences, discuss everyday challenges and share useful resources. What one person has learned can help someone else avoid the same difficulties.
Knowledge & Education
We organise practical cases, policy information and specialist knowledge from real community conversations, and share them through website articles, the Community Wall, newsletters, videos and events. We are also exploring AI-assisted organisation, summarisation and translation to help turn knowledge scattered across discussions into resources that people can find, learn from and revisit.
Policy & Advocacy
Through community feedback, surveys, focused discussions and events, we seek to identify concerns shared by everyday property owners. We aim to bring representative facts, experiences and recommendations into respectful, evidence-informed and constructive dialogue with government, elected representatives and relevant organisations.
What Makes APOA Different
APOA is built around volunteer participation and not-for-profit community work, rather than the sale of commercial property services. Our volunteers come from a variety of professional and personal backgrounds, contributing their time, knowledge and experience to help the community grow.
We also welcome contributions from professionals in law, finance, insurance, building, maintenance, real estate and related fields. We aim to work openly and transparently while preserving our independence and focusing on long-term value to the community.
Looking Towards 2027
APOA already supports community exchanges, knowledge sharing and online and in-person activities. Looking ahead, we hope to expand accessible learning resources, videos and interviews, professional exchanges, and research and public engagement grounded in community needs.
Our vision is an enduring community of Australian property owners: a place to find experience and useful learning resources when problems arise; a place where people with knowledge are willing to share; and a place where ordinary families’ experiences can contribute to collective learning and better public dialogue.
APOA does not belong to, or depend on, any one person. Every contribution of time, experience or knowledge can help sustain the community for those who follow.
