Matthew Guy raises APOA in the Victorian Parliament

On 17 June 2026, Australian Property Owners Alliance (APOA) was formally written into the Victorian Parliament Hansard for the first time, becoming part of Victoria’s public parliamentary record.

In an Adjournment Matter, Matthew Guy MP introduced APOA to Parliament and summarised key issues raised by community landlords during a recent forum. He also called for direct engagement between the Minister for Consumer Affairs and APOA.

This marked an important moment in APOA’s community journey.

From landlord forum to parliamentary record

On 13 June 2026, APOA held its first Australian Landlord Forum. Matthew Guy MP attended the event and spoke directly with community members.

The forum focused on issues that many Victorian landlords have been raising for some time, including:

• questions around Gas and Electricity Safety Checks;
• VCAT hearing delays and enforcement efficiency;
• the pressure created by rising Land Tax;
• the effect of the COVID Debt Levy on small landlords;
• the practical difficulties landlords face under the current rental system.

These issues came from real cases shared by APOA community members and formed the core of the discussion at the forum.

APOA was formally recorded in Hansard

On 17 June 2026, Matthew Guy MP formally referred to Australian Property Owners Alliance (APOA) in the Victorian Parliament during an Adjournment Matter.

He described APOA as a community made up of everyday family landlords and summarised key issues raised at the forum, including:

• Gas and Electricity Safety Checks;
• VCAT processing delays;
• Land Tax;
• the COVID Debt Levy;
• the rising holding costs faced by small landlords.

At the end of his contribution, Matthew Guy MP asked that the Minister for Consumer Affairs meet with APOA to better understand the concerns raised by the community.
