APOA Community Guidelines

Australian Property Owners Alliance (APOA)
Version: V0.1 website draft | for approval before publication

Welcome to APOA

APOA is a volunteer-led, not-for-profit community platform in Australia. We connect people who own or manage property, or who are interested in issues affecting property owners, so they can share experiences, learn, support one another and contribute constructively to public discussion.

These guidelines apply to member contributions on the APOA website, Community Wall, community groups and events organised or moderated by APOA. Separate group, event and third-party platform rules may also apply. These guidelines describe the community we want to build; they do not replace the Terms of Use, Privacy Policy or applicable law.

1. Respect people and different perspectives

People bring different experiences, backgrounds and views. Discuss issues, evidence, laws and policies without personal attacks, harassment, bullying, discrimination, threats or deliberate humiliation.

APOA welcomes constructive discussion of rental policy, taxation, housing and property ownership. An individual’s opinion is not automatically an official APOA position.

2. Share experiences responsibly

When describing personal experiences, provide relevant context where possible, including the date and Australian state or territory. Distinguish between firsthand experience, opinion and verified fact. When sharing legal, policy or market news, include reliable sources and dates wherever practical.

Do not knowingly spread false or misleading claims that could cause harm. Community information is general in nature; consult an appropriately qualified professional for advice tailored to legal, tax, financial or other individual circumstances.

3. Protect privacy and obtain permission

Do not publish another person’s name, phone number, email address, specific address, identity details, payment information or other identifying material without appropriate permission. Anonymise tenant, landlord, neighbour and property dispute examples wherever possible.

Private WeChat conversations, direct messages, volunteer discussions, survey responses, member records and non-public event material must not be copied, screenshotted, redistributed or used in public articles, videos or AI tools without appropriate authority or consent. Content editors should verify permission and adequate de-identification before publication.

4. Keep knowledge-sharing separate from unsolicited promotion

Professionals in real estate, law, accounting, maintenance, insurance and related fields are welcome to contribute expertise. However, unsolicited advertising, repeated sales pitches, harvesting member contact information and unauthorised commercial solicitation are not permitted.

Relevant commercial connections or conflicts should be disclosed. Being a volunteer, guest expert or active participant does not mean APOA endorses a particular product or provider.

5. Act safely, lawfully and in good faith

Do not share unlawful, fraudulent, threatening, impersonating or rights-infringing material. Do not misrepresent yourself as speaking officially for APOA.

At online and in-person events, follow reasonable safety arrangements and venue instructions. For immediate threats to personal safety or suspected serious crime, contact appropriate Australian emergency or law-enforcement services rather than relying solely on community volunteers.

6. Moderation, reports and review

To protect members and constructive discussion, APOA may provide warnings, request edits, remove inappropriate content, restrict access or respond to serious breaches under relevant procedures. Decisions should take account of context, proportionality and the privacy of those affected.

Report harassment, privacy breaches, impersonation or serious misconduct to apoa@apoa.org.au with relevant factual information. Avoid sharing another person’s sensitive details in public channels.

If you believe a moderation decision was based on a misunderstanding, you can also request a review through that address. Volunteers may require a reasonable time to respond and cannot guarantee immediate moderation or a professional dispute-resolution service.

7. Help make shared experience useful

APOA grows through everyday experiences, thoughtful questions and people helping one another. We welcome respectful debate, practical knowledge and constructive participation.
